No animal is safe from illegal hunting. The animals who got into the endangered category simply because of this ranges from elephants to whales.
Even though there are activists around the world who are doing their best to prevent this and preserve the wildlife, most of the time they end up being outnumbered. It certainly does not stop them from going at it again and again though.
Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is one of those organizations that will probably never back down. Their unusual methods have been criticized by Greenpeace and the Japanese whalers tried to sue them for the damages they caused. They seem to get the results they want so it is quite hard to tell if they are in the wrong or not.
What is Sea Shepherd doing now?
They are still active and do their best to prevent illegal whaling and fishing to protect marine life.
What have they been up to?
Defend, Conserve, Protect
If you would like to know more about them and enjoy a good watch, a recent documentary called “Defend, Conserve, Protect” features the organization and their efforts toward protecting the seas.
The movie almost resembles a war movie that takes place on the high seas. Sea Shepherd’s fleet’s struggle against the whaling vessels creates an adrenaline packed environment.
The founder Paul Watson is also involved in other projects, mainly documentaries to raise awareness and let the world know what is happening under their noses.
After watching any of his documentaries, a feeling of self awareness captures you and makes you question how you have been living until that moment.
Eco-Terrorist: The Battle for Our Planet
Another great watch that involves the Sea Shepherd’s crew is “Eco-Terrorist: The Battle for Our Planet”. It was also released in 2019 and it features the crew’s unorthodox techniques that eventually got them labeled as eco terrorists.
Sea Shepherd’s crew also gets featured in the “Ocean Warriors” tv series. The documentary features the most epic stories of the crew and scopes on the struggles they go through to put an end to illegal fishing networks and bring outlaws to justice.
Even though they get a lot of flak for their methods, they get the job done. I guess calling them vigilantes could be fitting
If you had not heard about the organization before it may sound like they are a movie crew but no. These documentaries are simply made to shed some light upon what they are fighting against and let the world know that even though their methods are unusual, their hearts are in the right place.
