On this show, Merritt Clifton joined Lori and discussed statistics and trends of companion animal overpopulation, euthanasia, and dog and cat adoption rates. Merritt is Editor of Animal People, the leading independent newspaper providing original investigative coverage of animal protection worldwide. Merritt has been a news reporter, editor, columnist, and foreign correspondent since 1968, specializing in animal and habitat-related coverage since 1978. He is a charter member of the Society of Environmental Journalists, and a 4-time winner of national awards for investigative reporting. Merritt has a special interest in infectious diseases and in 2010 he was awarded the Pro-Med-mail Award for Excellence in Outbreak Reporting on the Internet.

We need to have accurate statistics if we are going to know the best ways to act to reduce the euthanasia of dogs and cats.
